Fuego in G

Inspired by Piazolla’s work, “Fuego in G” is a Latin American piece composed for string quartet and piano. The piece experiments with latin rhythms, harmonies and melodies with a classical twist.

The Gallop

“The Gallop” is a piece written for cello and piano duet. Inspired by the piece “Horse Racing” by Huang Huaihai, it aims to imitate the galloping and natural movements of horses. I used extended techniques on the cello such as ricochets, runs, glissandos, double stops to achieve such effect.

Summiting

I composed the piece “Summiting” to commemorate my Mardi Himal hiking experience in Nepal. “Summiting” is composed for string quartet and piano ensemble, and is divided into five themes, each symbolising a different stage of the trek. I experiment with traditional Indian Raags, “Saptak scale”, a traditional 7-note Middle Eastern scale, as well as jazz elements, to create a unique distinctive sound.
